A master's thesis at the College of Islamic Sciences discusses the semantic use of active participle forms and their exaggerations in books on verbal analogies

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Fallujah discussed a master’s thesis in the Arabic language entitled “The Semantic Employment of Participle Forms and Its Exaggerations in the Books of Verbal Analogies.”

The thesis submitted by the student Sanaa Alaa Majed Rasheed, under the supervision of A.M.D., aimed to Muhammad Abd Dhiyab, to search for subtle linguistic differences by reviewing the verses contained in the books of verbal similarities, while mentioning the meanings and connotations provided by the morphological structures.

The thesis discussion committee was headed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hadi Muhammad, and membership of A.M.D. Qusay Jadoua Reda, A.M.D. Saad Sabbar Abdel Baqi.

The results of the thesis showed that the context has an effective role in determining the meaning, as it is possible to confirm the meaning of the formula, whether it is inferred from the form of the formula or by proving another meaning, such as the meaning of the active participle to the infinitive or vice versa.

The results of the thesis also showed the diversity of authors’ methods in books on similarities, as they differed between those who rely on brevity and abbreviation in explaining issues, and those who prefer length and detail in explanation.
