Twenty-Five Iraqi Universities in Ranking (QS Arab Region University Rankings 2025)

The QS World Rankings has released its 2025 edition of the QS Arab Region University Rankings, in which twenty-five universities from Iraq secured competitive positions.

According to the rankings (https://www.topuniversities.com/arab-region-university-rankings?countries=iq), 246 institutions from across the Arab region were evaluated based on various indicators, including academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty-to-student ratio (15%), international research network (10%), web impact (5%), proportion of faculty with doctorates (5%), citations per research (5%), research output per institution (5%), percentage of international faculty (2.5%), and percentage of international students (2.5%).

The results highlighted a significant increase in Iraqi participation, with twenty-five universities now competing, up from eighteen in the previous year.

In this year’s rankings, the University of Baghdad ranked first in Iraq and thirty-eighth across the Arab region, followed by other Iraqi institutions such as Mustansiriyah, Basra, Nahrain, Kufa, Babylon, University of Technology, Anbar, Karbala, Mosul, Middle Technical University, Nineveh, Tikrit, Diyala, Qadisiyah, Islamic University, Wasit, Iraqi University, Muthanna, Central Technical University, Northern Technical University, Southern Technical University, Fallujah, Kirkuk, and Dhi Qar.

Additionally, over a hundred Iraqi universities and colleges now compete in eight international ranking systems, positioning Iraq 29th globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and seventh in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for Sustainable Development.
