Under the patronage and in the presence of the Honorable President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, the College of Law at the University of Fallujah organized today, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, its first scientific symposium for the academic year 2024-2025, under the title “Amending the Personal Status Law: Its Pros and Cons.”

The symposium witnessed the presence of the Honorable Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Suleiman Barak Al-Jumaili, the Honorable Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Raed Naji Ahmed, and the Dean of the College of Applied Sciences, Professor The respected Dr. Muhammad Jubayr Al-Mahdi, along with a number of faculty members and students of the college.

The symposium, which was moderated by Professor Dr. Ziad Tariq Jassim, included three main topics: The first topic, in which Professor Dr. Adel Nasser Hussein lectured, dealt with the extent of the societal need to amend the Personal Status Law, while A.M. highlighted. D. Abdul Rahman Saleh Latif, in the second axis, sheds light on the extent to which the amendment proposals are compatible with the principles of Islamic Sharia.

In the third axis, M. discussed: D. Thaer Hamid Awad discussed the suitability of the amendment proposals to the Iraqi social reality, reviewing the expected effects of these amendments on the family and society.

The symposium aimed to open an expanded scientific dialogue about the proposed amendments to the Personal Status Law, and their impact on various segments of Iraqi society.

This symposium comes within the framework of the university’s keenness to actively contribute to community dialogue on pressing legal and social issues, and to provide scientific insights that contribute to the development of Iraqi legislation in a way that achieves the public interest.
