A master's thesis at the College of Administration and Economics discusses measuring the effectiveness of exports in addressing economic imbalances in Iraq

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Fallujah discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Measuring the effectiveness of exports in addressing economic imbalances in Iraq for the period 2021-2024.”

The study presented by the student Wafa Rashid Allawi, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nizar Dhiyab Assaf, to measure and analyze the impact of exports on some internal economic imbalances, such as the inflation rate, the general budget deficit, and internal debt, as well as on external economic imbalances represented by the parallel exchange rate and imports in the Iraqi economy, using the ARDI model for data analysis.

The discussion committee was headed by Prof. Muhannad Khalifa Obaid, whose members included Professor Suhaila Abdel Zahra Mastour and Professor Munther Aliwi Hamid.

The results of the study concluded that there is a direct relationship between exports and internal economic imbalances in the short term, as a result of changes in oil prices, which in turn affects public revenues in the Iraqi economy.

The study also indicated that there are no problems between exports and internal and external economic imbalances, which means the relationship between them is stable.

In the long term, the results showed an inverse relationship between exports and internal imbalances, while the relationship was positive with external economic imbalances.

The study recommended the need to diversify sources of income and encourage local production to increase exports and reduce imports, which contributes to the survival of foreign currency within Iraq, and the use of export revenues to strengthen other economic sectors.
